Why This Matters

“This season is special,” says the festival’s founder. “We celebrate your excellence as filmmakers while supporting California in its recovery efforts. Together, we’re uniting as a community to help a place that has given us some of our favorite movies and shows.”

For many in the film industry, California is more than just a cinematic landmark. It is home, a place where countless filmmakers, artists, and industry professionals have lived, worked, and created. Beyond Hollywood’s glamour, California is a community, a space filled with families, small businesses, and wildlife, all of whom are now facing devastating challenges due to the fires.

A Festival with a Mission

The Morgana Film Festival has always stood for supporting independent voices in cinema, and this initiative reflects that same spirit—bringing people together to create change. “California is more than just a celebrity destination,” the festival states. “It’s a home to so many, and they need our help.”

Behind the Morgana Film Festival

Federica Alice Carlino is an accomplished director, actor, and casting director, best known for founding the Morgana Film Festival, an online platform dedicated to indie filmmakers. Established during the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival gives emerging filmmakers a space to showcase their work and gain international recognition, especially during a time when traditional festivals were on hold.

Carlino's career is marked by her diverse background in cinema. After studying at Mohole in Milan and Met Film School in London, she earned a BFA in directing from the New York Film Academy. Her works such as The Monster's Club and the upcoming project A Different Kind of Loss garnered critical attention and featured a talented cast.

With 82 awards and 38 nominations, Carlino has been recognized as one of the Top 10 Most Awarded Directors Under 35and the most awarded IMDb director under 35. Her casting experience includes working with students from the New York Film Academy, where she helps guide actors and filmmakers toward their goals.

Carlino’s work is driven by her deep empathy and understanding of actors, ensuring they feel supported and empowered. Through the Morgana Film Festival, she continues to champion indie filmmakers and contribute to the global film community.

Every Submission Made a Difference

By submitting to the Morgana Film Festival this season, filmmakers are not only showcasing their work but directly contributing to relief efforts. Every fee collected went toward organizations providing aid, shelter, and resources to those affected by the fires.

“This is about community,” the festival emphasizes. “Your generosity means the world to us.”
